Copy of Goltzius Drawing

Here's my rendition of Hendrick Goltzius' drawing "Bust of an Angel".

I used vine charcoal, charcoal pencil, pastel pencil, and white conté on a piece of 12" x 16" Canson Pastel paper. I think it took me about an hour and a half, maybe two hours total to complete.

The Philosopher Holding a Skull

Just finished up a drawing of a copy of Michelangelo's sketch, "A Philosopher Holding a Skull", for an assignment in my Dynamic Figure Drawing class at AIO. I think it came out really good. I ended up using a brown conté pencil and a white conté pencil on blue Canson pastel paper. The dimensions of the paper are 12 x 16 inches. I took a photo before I added the highlights so you could see how I work. When I can get my hands on some bigger tinted paper I'll probably try and reproduce it again. He's a little shorter than the original, but I think it still looks nice.

On a side note, I've been trying to find a good sharpener for my conté pencils. I bought a three pack of red General's and after sharpening 5 pencils, they are now useless. I have another General's sharpener that's lasted for years with graphite pencils, but the wider conté pencils don't fit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and one more thing. If anyone knows how the old masters sharpened their mediums, I am very curious. I imagine they used the compressed sticks, but I really don't know.

Get a clue!

So, I just have to rant a little.

Why is it that even after taking X amount of classes at AIO there are still some people who don't put their names in their files. This is so aggravating! I almost don't even want to bother viewing their work. I'll also rarely comment on their post either. Argggg!!

Also, these are usually the same people who put spaces in their file names. These never download properly!!! GET A CLUE!
At least substitute an underscore _ people, or a dash - , or something.

These student make the whole commenting process frustrating. If you're serious about your education, take credit for your work by putting your name in the file that you upload. And please be courteous and don't upload files that have spaces in the name.

The Time after Sleeping Time

Found this cool comic at xkcd.com

I'm usually on Hawaii Time, which is sad because I live on the East Coast.
